Creating Pathways for
Charitable Giving and Impact
Supporting the mission of The Washing Machine Project through funding, oversight, and independent governance.
Help create more impact for those who need it most.
What is TWMP Foundation?
The Washing Machine Project Foundation (the Foundation) is a registered charity established to support the mission of The Washing Machine Project CIC, a social enterprise designing and delivering innovative washing solutions for communities in need.
The Foundation is independently governed by its Board of Trustees and registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales. It raises charitable funds, reviews proposals, and distributes grants for projects that aim to improve lives through sustainable laundry solutions and other practical innovations.
Through its independent oversight, the Foundation ensures:
Charitable funds are used transparently and responsibly
Donations are directed only to charitable projects, including those delivered by the CIC
Supported activities align with the Foundation’s charitable purpose
The Foundation plays a critical role in:
Expanding access to manual washing machines in underserved communities.
Providing independent governance, financial oversight, and strategic guidance to The Washing Machine Project CIC.
Funding charitable research, development, and innovation.
How is the Foundation different from The Washing Machine Project CIC?
The Washing Machine Project operates as a Community Interest Company (CIC), meaning it is a social enterprise reinvesting profits into its mission. The Foundation exists as an entirely separate legal entity and registered charity to manage charitable donations in line with UK charity law.
The two organisations work together through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with a clearly documented process for reviewing and approving charitable grants.
The TWMP Foundation ensures:
Independent governance and transparent grant-making
A clear boundary between charitable giving and earned income
That every charitable project is assessed and reviewed by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees
That impact and feedback from grants are reported and shared
